If you do a city of Toronto property search than you are sure to discover that there are many different neighbourhoods in this giant metropolis and each of them comes with its own unique feel and characteristics. Some are full of young professionals who relish living in the core of Canada’s largest city and some are packed with families who wish to make their corner of Toronto feel as tight-knit as a small town. When you’re choosing where to buy property for sale in Toronto it’s important to decide where in the city you will feel most at home. Here are some suggestions of neighbourhoods you may want to check out.

The Annex/Forest Hill

While you will find many students from the University of Toronto renting properties in the Annex region, you will find a lot of homeowners there as well. This is one of the city’s most diverse neighbourhoods, with many types of people taking advantage of the early-1900s homes and proximity to Toronto’s most popular business and entertainment districts.

Real estate agents Toronto will tell you that the Annex is known as the area between Bathurst and Avenue Road east to west and Dupont and Bloor north to south. This neighbourhood was very popular with wealthy Toronto residents at the beginning of the 20th century and is now rising in prominence once again.

Forest Hill is just north of the Annex and is full of some of the best luxury houses for sale in Toronto. It was originally called Spadina Heights and when the city expanded in the 1920s, this was where all of the wealthiest people chose to build their new estates. Many of those beautiful pieces of architecture are still standing today.

Old Toronto East

This is the large area from Yonge Street east to the Don Valley River and includes Downtown East, Cabbagetown, Corktown, and Regent Park. These areas were originally populated by middle to low-class working families and are still very popular with first-time homeowners. Many of the Toronto MLS listings in this area might need a little extra work, but they also will come with a whole lot of character in their designs.

One of the rising neighbourhoods in this region, which is going through a large revitalization, is the Distillery District in Corktown. Developers are taking advantage of many of the older factory buildings by turning them into new lofts and replacing others with luxury condos. There are even plans to create a number of complexes that follow the LEED standards of green design. So, if you’re looking for real estate in Toronto and have a large an environmental conscience, this is where you might want to start your search.

Bloor West

West of Dufferin you will find some of Toronto’s most-desired neighbourhoods. High Park is the largest green space in the city and nearby Bloor West Village is full of funky shops and restaurants. There are also many people snatching up the new lofts and condos available along King and Queen West. There seems to be something for every taste on this side of the city.
